Minister Jacobs officially opens Little League tournament

PHILIPSBURG – Minister of Sports Silveria Jacobs threw the first pitch and officially opened the Little League, Junior League Latin America Regional Tournament on Pond Island on Saturday, July 9.

The Junior League Latin America Regional Tournament will take place from July 9-16 on St. Maarten.

Minister Jacobs welcomed each of the teams to the shores of St. Maarten and wished them much success.

Teams participating in the Tournament are Aruba, Bonaire, Colombia, Curaçao, Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, US Virgin Islands and Venezuela.

The Junior League Baseball Division is a program for boys and girls ages 12-14, using a conventional 90-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 60 feet, 6 inches.
