PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — After the recent Rotary Motor Treasure Hunt and its change of board dinner, Rotary Mid Isle presented a US$ 20,000 check to Foresee Foundation and its DigiKidz Program. This is the largest local donation that Foresee has received so far and brings the total of local cash funds to US$ 63,000 out of a total project amount for DigiKidz of over US$ 800,000.

Mr. David Antrobus, President of Rotary Mid Isle, proudly presented the check explaining that with this money, the 3rd DigiKidz school will have a beautiful fully equipped classroom with a number of laptops for the students, a digital board, printer, cameras all connected to a brand new wireless network with internet access for all devices. Rotary Mid Isle members emphasized the importance of bringing technology in the classrooms as it will serve both education and on the long term the quality of a strong labour force in St. Maarten where regardless of job and age, technology plays a very important role in this 21st century.

Currently work is being carried out at the third DigiKidz School, Helmich Snijders Christian in St. Peters, to have all cabling and the wireless network structure up. During the month of September and October the classroom will be furnished with all equipment and teachers will receive their first trainings.

At the end of October, District Governor of Rotary International’s District 7020 will visit St. Maarten and he will be able to view the results of the hard work of the Rotary Mid Isle members.

During the check presentation ceremony, Foresee Foundation gave a presentation on the ins and out of the project and explained how the delivery of the IT infrastructure and equipment goes hand in hand with professional development of staff and good management. The board of Foresee expressed its heartfelt appreciation towards the huge efforts made by the Rotary members, who offer their free time to give service to the local community.

A special thank you went out to Oyster Bay Beach Resort represented by General Manager, Mr. Ricardo Perez, as their winning Rotary Motor Treasure Hunt team decided to return the monetary prize to Rotary so that it could be donated back to the DigiKidz project.
