Pineapple Pete tennis finals served up Saturday

CAY HILL—The first Pineapple Pete’s Singles Open Tournament, is racing toward Friday semi-finals and a Saturday finish at the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex courts.
Among the local talent and strong players from the French side is Pierre Ferland know as Pineapple Pete. The competition features Men’s, Women’s and 40plus draws.
The Group 1 of the Men’s draw Frank Chang dominated the early play defeating Walter Ricci 6-2 6-5 and Joeri Essed.
Djai Essed topped Group 2 defeating Yann Corvellec 6-4 6-4 and Hans De Bruyne 6-3 6-2. Daniel Adrio finished first in Group 3 besting Dominique Bosqui 6-0 6-0 and Jean-Louis Virolan topped group 4. He defeated Djai Essed 6-2 6-0 and Ronny Carty 6-4 6-2.
The Men’s semi-finals are scheduled for 6:00 and 7:30pm Friday and the final Saturday at 11.
In the Women’s Division Carla Speetjens topped group two beating Sabine Leijten 7-6 6-0 and Katja Andeweg 3-6 6-4 6-4.
Group one is to close to call with one match to play. Tess Blom and Erika Van Der Horst each have won one match and play each other to determine who will advance. The Women’s semi-finals are set for Thursday at 6:00 and 7:30pm and the final will be played Saturday starting at 4:30pm.
There are two groups in the 40 plus division. Frank Chang topped group one defeating David Nelson 6-3 6-2, Roeland Zwanikken 6-1 6-1 and Paul Van den Hoogen 6-4 6-3.
Hans De Bruyne bested William Irish 5-5 6-4 and Joeri Essed 6-3 6-4 to win group two. The winners of group three and four have yet to be determined. Pierre Ferland played in group 3. He defeated Paul Van Den Hoogen 6-2 6-2 and lost his other two matches.
The 40 plus semi-finals are scheduled for Friday at 6:00 and 7:30pm and the final is set for Saturday at 4:30pm.
