ST. MAARTEN – The Maho Group, owners and operators of Sonesta St. Maarten Resorts, signed an agreement on October 16, 2018 to rebuild their eco-friendly solar power farm with China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) Dutch Caribbean, a subsidiary of the large Chinese-owned company that specializes in energy and renewable energy projects around the world. CMEC, which services include design, supply, construction, installing, financing and more, will supply and implement the most advanced photovoltaic panels available in the market. The new panels will increase the generating capacity by approximately 15% with the same number of panels, with a potential to generate a maximum of 1.15 mega watts of power.

Commencing in June 2019, the improved solar energy farm is a testament to the Maho Group’s continued commitment to reducing the negative impact on the environment and carbon footprint of their properties. In addition to the eco-friendly TCK and LVKE building materials and new thermal insulating sliding doors used in the reconstruction, Sonesta Maho Beach Resort, Casino & Spa and Sonesta Ocean Point Resort, will be two of the most energy-efficient resorts in the Caribbean.
