MP Maurice Lake: Stop the violence

1997

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — As a representative of the people, my heartfelt condolence goes out to the families who have lost their loved one within these past two weeks.

I am calling on behalf of everyone, especially my district of St. Peters to stop the violence that is plaguing our community.

Violence is not the answer. Life is a precious gift and we have to make something of it. St. Maarten needs everyone now to build their nation. I am appealing to the community to assist the police and investigators by providing information so the culprits can be taken off the streets and brought to justice.

Violence does not solve anything, but gives the country a bad name. We are a tourist island and this senseless violence does not do well for our tourism-oriented economy.  We need everybody to work together in order to stop this violence in our society.
