BEACON HILL, Sint Maarten — Timeshare Owners of Caravanserai Association (TOCA) is extremely pleased that the St. Maarten Court of First Instance has held that Alegria Real Estate BVI, and its owner Ray Sidhom, violated their timeshare rights by canceling outright their ownership of long-term leases bought and paid for at the former Caravanserai Resort.
This is a victory, not only for TOCA, but for the entire St. Maarten tourism industry and, indeed all citizens of St. Maarten. The people of this beautiful island can now have confidence that timeshare contracts in St. Maarten mean what they say, and developers who seek to avoid timeshare laws and ordinances will be held accountable for the damage they cause to the industry and to the reputation of the island.
We will have more to say when we read the details of the decision, but we want to thank St. Maarten, and its government, for the on-going efforts they are undertaking to regulate and uphold the timeshare rights of timeshare owners on the island.
