~St. Maarten celebrates Women Entrepreneurship Day~

Great Bay, St. Maarten – In 2014, the United Nations officially recognized November 19 as Women’s Entrepreneurship Day (WED).  Under the leadership of Wendy Diamond, an activist, the Women Entrepreneurship Day Foundation has identified ambassadors all over the world to further its mission of celebrating, empowering, and supporting women entrepreneurs.

St. Maarten joins this global movement of more than 140 countries as part of WED Caribbean which supports seventeen (17) countries in this region, and is headed by Cecile Watson, a serial entrepreneur in Jamaica and one of the original WED Ambassadors in 2014, representing Jamaica. WED Caribbean supports the country anbassadors in this region to ensure that the local events are successful as well as to assist in leveraging the synergies in the Caribbean.

Ife Badejo was appointed Country Ambassador of St. Maarten for WED by the WED Foundation to ensure St. Maarten’s participation.. An active member of WED Caribbean, Ife is no stranger to empowering, celebrating, and supporting entrepreneurs, through the foundation INFOBIZZ.  To officially launch WED St. Maarten, Ms. Badejo and a team of multidisciplinary individuals are coordinating St. Maarten’s first annual Queen Awards on November 19.  This gender inclusive event will be held at Blue Mall as one of the main events of Entrepreneurship Week 721 (Nov 16-22) and will recognize key women entrepreneurs who have made remarkable progress in their entrepreneurial endeavors.

Two companies have already partnered with WED St. Maarten and thus joined this global movement.  Blue Mall, located in Cupecoy, has agreed not only to  host The Queen Awards on its premises, but will also provide a variety of items for door prizes from its affiliates. Divine, one of St. Maarten’s leading jewelry stores which carry  Swarovski™ among other brands, have provided items for the actual awards.

During the Queen Awards, the Youth Ambassador of WED for St. Maarten will be announced.  This young person will have access to local, regional, and international mentors to help grow her start-up.  The Youth Ambassador will also be part of the global movement and will work closely with other Youth Ambassadors from around the world.

The organizational culture of WED is a collaborative and gender inclusive one.  Thus, Dr. Will Moreland who is one of the keynotes for the iDOMINATE 360 Experience (Nov.20-21), will give practical and motivational tips to those present.

Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door, which includes refreshments and can be reserved by emailing empireofqueens@gmail.com.
