Minister of Tourism Arrindell receives update from Port St. Maarten Management on State of Affairs and Compliance

PORT ST. MAARTENOn Thursday Port St. Maarten Management provided Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport & Telecommunications (Ministry TEATT) Hon. Irania Arrindell, with an update on Port St. Maarten Group of Companies State of Affairs.

The Minister received an update about all compliance matters such as 2014 financial statement; operational audits; corporate governance report; the public prosecutor office civil inquiry; and much more.

Minister Arrindell also received a presentation about Port St. Maarten’s Strategic Business Plan and the best approach with respect to moving forward.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mark Mingo, stated on Thursday that the port is in compliance with its corporate responsibilities.

Port St. Maarten will be providing the Cabinet of the Minister TEATT with a priority list of short, mid and long-term priority matters which would lead to economic stimulation in a sustainable manner of the national tourism product.

CEO Mingo welcomed the minister’s commitment where she pledged her support to assist Port St. Maarten wherever necessary in order for the group of companies to meet its goals based on the Strategic Business Plan.

Other matters that were discussed during the meeting was the opening up of Cuba and what it would mean for St. Maarten; the formalization and strategic plans of the St. Maarten Tourism Authority; growing the European cruise market and diversification of the market; destination marketing funds; diversifying the product to enhance yachting and fueling in order to attract high end visitors who spend more money while visiting a destination; increase/enhance collaboration of government-owned companies.

Present for the meeting were several Port St. Maarten Managers as well as Supervisory Board members.
