Second arrest made in armed robbery at Casino at Sonesta Great Bay Hotel

GREATBAY, Sint Maarten — On Monday October 19th 2015 the Police Force Sint Maarten made the second arrest in the case of the armed robbery at the Casino at Sonesta Great Bay Hotel.

The police are still questioning the suspects regarding this robbery, which took place September18th 2015.

On that day several units of the Police Force were involved in the investigation of that armed robbery which took place in the morning hours at the casino of the Sonesta Great Bay. Two men threatened to use their fire-arms and succeeded in robbing the establishment.

The suspects made their escape but due to information gathered by the police regarding both suspects, the investigating officers were successful in identifying one of the suspects. This suspect was chased by the officers who fled on foot in the direction of the “Sint Maarten Zoo” leaving the SUV behind. During a search of the SUV in question considerable amount cash was found and confiscated for further investigation.

Several days later on the 23rd of September 2015, the Police Force arrested the 39-year-old suspect in this case at a home in Middle Region. On the 19th of October 2015 The Prosecutor’s Office has requested sixty-day extension of the pre-trial detention of the first suspect who was arrested in this armed robbery. The investigation continues.
