GREAT BAY – The Court in first Instance sentenced Jacques Jamivon Tanis on Wednesday to 204 days of imprisonment, two years of probation and mandatory anger management training. Of the sentence, 180 days are suspended. The defendant spent the remaining 24 days in pre-trial custody.

Tanis, a 33-year old dealer at a local casino, stabbed a 23-year old man during a bar fight with a pair of scissors in his neck. Prosecutor Gonda van der Wulp noted that Tanis had acted under the influence of alcohol.

There was not enough evidence for attempted manslaughter, but she held Tanis accountable for ill-treatment with a weapon.
