Successful Weekend of POWER With G.I.F.T.E.D. Foundation – Academy Sweeps Young King Awards!

Philipsburg, Sint Maarten — The third SXM Weekend of POWER was exactly that, powerful! The team of GIFTED and the artistes on the Caribbean Gospel Music Tour held entertaining motivational talks in seventeen schools in two days. These were followed by two free concerts in the Belvedere community –Daughters of Zion, and the Sons of Thunder concerts. The finale, ‘A Betta Tomorrow SXM’ Concert and Young King Awards was held at Port de Plaisance on Sunday. This was the first event for the A Betta Tomorrow project outside of Jamaica. Of the five trophies awarded that evening, all went home with the St. Maarten Academy.

The foundation honored eleven nominees from Sundial School, St. Maarten Academy PSVE and St. Maarten Academy (Academic). The winners in their respective categories were: for Young King of Academics – Clifford Francois; for Young King of Athletics – Joshua Bowers; for Young King of Community Service – O’Heny Loredent; for Young King of Expressive Arts – Jabari York; and for Young King of Leadership Shakir Peterson. They commended their fellow nominees for the work they are doing and thanked the public for the show of support on GIFTED Foundation’s Facebook and Youtube pages.

Member of Parliament Christopher Emmanuel, in his address, commended G.I.F.T.E.D. Foundation for the work they are doing in the community, bringing such positive messages to the young people and encouraged all to support these efforts. President of G.I.F.T.E.D. Foundation, Lenworth Wilson Jr. said the GIFTED Young Kings will be involved in projects as role models and mentors for the 2015/2016 year. He invited members of the social and business community to be part of the Young Kings Advantage Program, giving their support to these upstanding young men at an important stage of their development.
