Kralendijk – Preparations for Regatta 2026 have begun. To ensure the festivities proceed pleasantly and safely for everyone, the Chief Public Prosecutor of the Public Prosecution Service BES has issued an order authorizing preventive searches.

This order empowers the police to check anyone within the designated area for the possession of weapons. In doing so, the police may examine clothing, bags, and luggage. Vehicles such as cars, motorcycles, and scooters driving through the area may also be searched. No specific suspicion or cause is required for these checks.

Everyone is required to cooperate with such a check. Refusal is a punishable offense and will lead to arrest and prosecution.

The order applies to the town center and the neighborhoods of Tera Kora, Den Tera, and Nòrt Saliña, as defined in the order. It is in effect from October 11 through October 18, 2026, daily between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM the following morning.

Additionally, the Island Governor of Bonaire has issued a decree authorizing camera surveillance. This means that camera surveillance will also be in operation within the designated area.

These measures are part of a robust and comprehensive approach to combating the illegal possession of (fire)arms. Anyone caught in illegal possession of a firearm can expect strict enforcement action.
