KRALENDIJK — Over the past five years, Bonaire Holding Maatschappij N.V. (BHM) has worked with the management boards and supervisory boards of its subsidiaries to eliminate long-standing delays in financial reporting. In that period, 43 annual accounts were audited. Of those, 36 have since been adopted in shareholders’ meetings, after the Public Entity Bonaire obtained voting rights.
At waste company Selibon N.V., the accounts cover 2016 through 2025. Of the ten audited statements for that period, eight have been adopted. Progress has also been made at the other holdings. All audited accounts of Bonaire Overheidsgebouwen N.V. (BOG) for 2016 through 2025 have been adopted. At BonLab N.V., four of five audited accounts have been adopted. At Tourism Corporation Bonaire (TCB), eight of nine have been adopted. At Telbo N.V., four of seven audited accounts have been adopted.
When BHM’s management was appointed in 2020, one of its assigned tasks was to prepare and have audited the accounts of BHM itself, and to oversee the audit and timely adoption of the accounts of its subsidiaries, with the aim of clearing the existing backlog as quickly as possible.
BHM director Adely Susana-Jansen said keeping financial reporting in order is an ongoing process.
“The progress being made at the various subsidiaries is important. At least as important is that the shareholder has an essential instrument for properly directing and assessing a company. Without current and audited annual accounts, the shareholder cannot adequately assess the financial position, the investments made and how they were financed, the financial risks, and the effectiveness of the policy pursued,” Susana-Jansen said.
BHM said it will continue working with the subsidiaries to clear the remaining backlog and to improve the timeliness of financial reporting on a structural basis. Procedures for the outstanding accounts are continuing, with the aim of formal adoption as soon as possible.
