SINT MAARTEN (KPSM) — On Wednesday September 30, 2026 at approximately 4:20 p.m., the KPSM Police Dispatch Center received a report of an explosion near a boat yard on Wellsburg Street in Cole Bay.
Preliminary investigation indicated that work was being carried out on a boat near the fuel tank area when an explosion occurred.
Two workers sustained minor injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Both individuals received medical treatment for their injuries.
Firefighters responded promptly and successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading and causing further damage to other boats or buildings in the vicinity.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
