Five practical themes translate local Child Monitor findings into everyday action

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — Collective Prevention Services (CPS), the Department of Sport, the Division of Public Education, and Stichting EGO have launched a back-to-school awareness campaign to encourage healthier daily habits among children and families.

The campaign focuses on five simple themes:

Eat Smart Drink Water Sleep Well Move More Less Screen Time

The initiative is based on findings from the Sint Maarten Child Monitor 2025, which highlighted opportunities to improve children’s nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and overall well-being in primary school children. The campaign also emphasizes the link between healthy lifestyles and better concentration, energy levels, behavior, and school performance.

“Our goal is to turn Child Monitor findings into practical actions families can use every day,” the collaborating organizations stated. “Small changes such as drinking more water, getting enough sleep, and staying active can have a positive impact on both health and learning.”

The campaign will begin with a short awareness video and the first of five posters. Each theme will be introduced individually over the coming months through posters, flyers, social media, schools, and community outreach activities.

Campaign materials will be distributed to schools, daycare centers, healthcare providers, and other community locations across Sint Maarten. Partner organizations will also share the messages with parents and caregivers through their communication channels.

This initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to use local data to strengthen preventive health programs and create healthier school and community environments for children in Sint Maarten.

“Promoting the health and well-being of our children is a shared responsibility. As a government, we have an important role to play, but we cannot do this alone. Parents, schools, healthcare providers, businesses, community organisations, and families all have a part to play in helping our children develop healthy habits. When we work together and make healthy choices part of everyday life, we create an environment where our children can grow, learn, and thrive.” – Minister Melissa Gumbs, Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport

“Healthy habits established during childhood are an important foundation for lifelong health. By encouraging children to eat well, drink water, stay active and get enough sleep, we support their well-being today while helping to prevent health problems in the future,” said Minister Connor.
