PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at approximately 11:45 a.m., a traffic accident occurred on A.Th. Illidge Road, near the intersection with Zorg en Rust Road.

A red Suzuki Swift was traveling on A.Th. Illidge Road from the direction of Mount William Hill toward Zorg en Rust Road. At the location of the accident, the driver of the Suzuki Swift attempted to pass a bus that had stopped on the left side of the roadway.

At the same time, a scooter was approaching from the opposite direction, traveling toward Mount William Hill. During the maneuver, the Suzuki Swift collided head-on with the approaching scooter.

As a result of the collision, the scooter rider was thrown onto the windshield of the Suzuki Swift and sustained injuries. When police officers arrived at the scene, the scooter rider was no longer present. Based on information obtained afterward, the rider had gone to the French side for medical attention.

A second collision occurred at the same location shortly afterward. A motorcycle traveling in the same direction as the scooter approached the scene and, in an attempt to avoid becoming involved in the first collision, swerved to the left. The motorcycle subsequently collided with the front of the bus that had been stopped at the location.

The motorcycle rider did not sustain any injuries.

The Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) is investigating the circumstances surrounding both collisions.
