Philipsburg, St. Maarten and Willemstad, Curaçao –
DEJONG is pleased to announce that commercial attorney Thaïsa Heymans has joined the law office as of September 1, 2026. Thaïsa will contribute to the continued development of DEJONG’s growing commercial and corporate practice and further strengthen the firm’s services to businesses, entrepreneurs and institutional clients in the Caribbean part of our Kingdom.

Born and raised in the Netherlands to Caribbean parents from Curaçao and Aruba, Thaïsa has always maintained strong personal and professional ties to the Dutch Caribbean. She completed her primary, secondary and tertiary education in the Netherlands and obtained her Master’s degree in International Commercial Law from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam.

Thaïsa joins DEJONG after an important and formative period as a commercial attorney in Sint Maarten, where she developed her litigation skills and served clients across a variety of areas of law. “This move feels both familiar and exciting,” Thaïsa said. “Sint Maarten is home and will always be home to me. At the same time, Curaçao offers a great opportunity for further professional growth and for building lasting relationships within its business community. I look forward to helping DEJONG build an accessible and truly inter-island commercial practice.”

DEJONG founder and managing partner Gerald Simmons–de Jong warmly welcomed the firm’s newest commercial attorney: “Thaïsa and I actually met in law school at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam over 15 years ago. She is a perfect fit for the team and an exceptional addition to DEJONG. Her arrival represents exactly the kind of growth we believe in: growth rooted in local talent, strengthened by collaboration between our islands and driven by the ambition to provide high-quality legal services throughout the Dutch Caribbean. I am so proud that Thaïsa has chosen DEJONG for the next chapter of her career, and I am convinced that she will make an important contribution to the future of our firm and the legal practice on our islands.”

The appointment forms part of DEJONG’s broader regional development. With offices and an active presence across the Dutch Caribbean, the firm continues to invest in talented professionals who understand the region and are committed to making first-rate legal services accessible across island borders. Thaïsa’s move coincides with the relocation of DEJONG’s Sint Maarten office to a new and larger location on Cannegieter Street. The additional office space reflects the firm’s continued investment in Sint Maarten and provides a stronger base from which its expanding team can serve individuals, businesses and private- and public-sector clients.

With Thaïsa joining the firm and with the relocation to its larger office on Cannegieter Street, DEJONG begins this new chapter with confidence and a clear vision: to continue growing as a modern, connected and distinctly Caribbean law office, while remaining personally committed to every client and community it serves.
