FREEGAN HQ Reopens August 20 — Rested, Recharged and Ready to Serve the Community

SINT MAARTEN — After a well-deserved two-week break, the FREEGAN team is rested, recharged and ready to get back to work. FREEGAN HQ will reopen its doors on Thursday, August 20, with its regular services for the community resuming.

The FREEGAN Food Market will once again welcome families currently enrolled in the program, giving them the freedom to choose the groceries that best suit their households. The FREEGAN Thrift Store will reopen with affordable pre-loved items, and the freezer will once again be stocked with FREEGAN Meals.

FREEGAN’s coaches will also be available on Thursday mornings, while members of the Spanish-speaking community can meet with a Spanish-speaking coach on Saturday mornings.

“We love what we do, but sometimes you need to recharge your own batteries so you can keep giving your best to others,” says the FREEGAN team. “We are very happy to be back, full of energy and ready to continue supporting our community. Because for us, sharing really is caring.”

A special request to Sint Maarten’s supermarkets

With FREEGAN reopening, the foundation is also reaching out to supermarkets across the island with one simple request:

Please don’t throw away perfectly edible surplus food — donate it to FREEGAN instead.

Products that can no longer be sold but are still perfectly good to eat can make an enormous difference to families who are struggling to make ends meet. Instead of becoming waste, surplus fruits, vegetables, bread, groceries and other food products can find their way onto the tables of people who truly need them.

By donating edible surplus to FREEGAN, supermarkets can reduce food waste and support vulnerable families at the same time.

FREEGAN hopes that even more businesses will join this simple cycle of sharing: what one business can no longer sell may still be incredibly valuable to someone else.

Sharing is caring — and good food should feed people, not become waste.
