Man suffers burns from fire

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — On Tuesday at approximately 04.00 p.m. police patrols, ambulance and Fire department were sent to Scallop Shell road in Oyster Pond to investigate a fire which started at a transformer belonging to G.E.B.E.

An employee of G.E.B.E. who was working at that location suffered burns to his hands. The fire in question spread quickly and grew into a large bush fire which threatened several homes in the area.

The injured worker was treated on the scene and taken by ambulance to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment. The fire was quickly brought under control by the fire department. The exact cause of the fire is still unclear.

The victim suffered second degree burns to both hands and elbows. His condition is stable and his wounds are not life threatening.
