Pedestrian hit by scooter

COLE BAY – On Thursday, December 22, a pedestrian was struck by a scooter while attempting to cross the road. The incident happened at approximately 8:00am on the Welfare Road in Cole Bay.

The pedestrian and scooter rider were both treated by paramedics on the scene. The scooter rider complained of pain in his hip and lower extremities. The pedestrian suffered a broken leg. Both were transported to the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) for further treatment.

It was determined from eyewitness accounts, and an investigation conducted at the scene by the Traffic Department, that the pedestrian was negligent, which resulted in the accident. After treatment the scooter rider was released from hospital while the pedestrian remained for further observation.
