PHILIPSBURG – On Sunday, October 9, the St. Maarten Chinese Community Foundation (SCCF) met with the Police Department at the John Larmonie Community Center. It was a very informative session with a large group of the Chinese business community discussing issues related to the recent spike in armed robberies here.

During the meeting, a PowerPoint presentation was given by the Police Department, with tips on how to prevent armed robberies, and the “do’s & don’ts” during a robbery. The Police Department also highlighted the necessary measures they have taken to assist the business community with this spike in robberies. For example, increased police patrols, increased control of vehicles, regular visits to businesses by community police officers in their respective community, just to name a few.

“On behalf of the community, SCCF would like to give thanks to the entire St. Maarten police force for the initiative and steps they have taken in light of the spike of robberies,” SCCF said in a statement.
