Police charge six for $1.8 million Fort Young robbery

Six people including a woman have been arrested and charged with the robbery on May 21 2016 at Jewelry International located at the Fort Young Hotel.

They appeared before Roseau Magistrate Bernard Pacquette this morning where the charges were read to them.

Craig Christian, Cynthia Dorset and Elrado Ducreay are charged with conspiracy to rob Jewelry International between December 1st 2014 and May 21st 2016.

While Akim Anton Francis, Jason Dubique from St. Maarten and Michael Alexis Magloire also of St. Maarten have been charged with conspiracy to rob and also with robbery.

Police prosecutor Michael Laudat told the court this morning that the prosecution was objecting to bail on grounds that the 45 Rolex watches stolen and the firearm used in the crime are yet to be recovered. He told the court that the police feared that if bail was granted the accused will interfere with witnesses.

The 45 Rolex watches were valued at EC$1,857,762.04

Magistrate Pacquette set the bail hearing for June 6.

The accused have been remanded in custody.

The preliminary inquiry has been set for October 31 2016.
