Road closure measures on Wednesday and Thursday for the funeral of Police Officer Benjamin

GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – Ministry of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Development and Infrastructure (Ministry VROMI), hereby informs the public that a number of road closures will take place on Wednesday, August 12 and Thursday, August 13 in connection with the funeral of Police Officer Gamali Benjamin.

On Wednesday 12th August, the wake will take place at the Royal Funeral Home, Sucker Garden Road. Time: 6:30pm – 9:30pm.

Road closure in connection with the wake will start from intersection Guana Bay Road/Sucker Garden Road to intersection Arch Road/Sucker Garden Road which will be closed for trough traffic.

Only a section of the closed up area will be used for parking purposes for the mourners to pay their last respect. The area will have lights for safety purposes only during the hours of 6:30pm-9:00pm.

The road from the Freedom Fighters roundabout up to the intersection Guana Bay Road/Sucker Garden Road will remain open for the residents of the area.

Only residents coming from the Arch Road will be allowed onto Sucker Garden Road.  The road will be closed off completely starting from area Jo-Jo construction up to entrance Guana Bay Road.

There will be no through traffic from the Freedom Round-a-bout to Dutch Quarter.  Motorists will have to use Soualiga Blvd-Arch Road-Sucker Garden Road to get to Belvedere/Middle Region and surrounding areas.

On Thursday 13th August, the day of the funeral, the parking lot opposite the Post Office will be closed off completely as of Wednesday night around 9.00pm. This area will be used for parking for the funeral.

Front Street and Back Street will be closed off completely up to the side roads. All traffic will have to use Cannegieter Street.

All Buses and Taxis will use the parking for Taxis at the Government Administration Building.

The section of E. Camille Richardson Street will be closed from 10:00am19:00pmat the intersection section Zout Steeg on Thursday, August 13.

Police Officer Gamali Benjamin will be laid to rest at the Methodist Cemetery in Philipsburg. The road closure will be section Longwall Road and Kerkhof Straat. Also the area Little Bay Road at the bridge will be closed for through traffic.

All motorized traffic will be re-routed via the Fort Willem Road.

The aforementioned will take place during the final ceremony at the cemetery.
