Packed with useful info for high school students
PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — High school students in St. Maarten, Saba and St. Eustatius will have easy access to a range of useful data, inspirational stories and lots of space to note down their important school related information and reminders in the 2015-2016 HYPE Agendas.
The 100 per cent locally produced agendas have been completed and will be ready for the start of the new academic year, coordinator Zulayka Peterson said in a press release on Wednesday.
The agendas are specifically tailored for the academic year and cover the months that coincide with the school year making them easy for students to use for school related reminders such as noting down their assignments, projects, homework and other school related things, Peterson said.
The HYPE Agenda is a product for the youth by the youth. It was produced by Voice of the Youth St. Maarten in collaboration with a group of students from the various high schools in St. Maarten. Participating students came from St. Dominic High, St. Maarten Vocational Training School, both sections of St. Maarten Academy, Milton Peters College, Learning Unlimited Preparatory School and Caribbean International Academy. Students and teacher role models from the abovementioned schools as well as those from Sundial School, Charlotte Brookson Academy, Methodist Agogic Centre Comprehensive Secondary Education, Saba Comprehensive School (in Saba) and Gwendoline van Putten School (in Statia) are featured in the agenda.
Participating students were actively involved in the production process and determined the information they want to see reflected in the publication; went out and conducted research and wrote most of the articles and profiles that will appear in the Agenda.
“The articles reflect the general theme of the Agenda “The journey travelled to achieve one’s goals,” and are educational, informative, inspirational, fun and appeal to students,” Peterson said.
“Numerous young and adult role models from right here in St. Maarten as well as from Saba, St. Eustatius and internationally are featured throughout the Agenda. A number of articles are also featured including an exclusive in-depth interview with the first Governor of St. Maarten His Excellency Eugene B. Holiday. The intention is to inspire youngsters to pursue their personal best and to aim for the stars,” Peterson added. “Throughout the Agenda, you will also be delighted by pictures taken locally, featuring high school students, which reflect various aspects of the general theme.”
This is the fifth year the HYPE Agendas are being produced for high school students in St. Maarten, Saba and Statia. Agendas were produced in 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014 and now in 2015.
Coordinators are in the process of contacting organisations to sponsor agendas for the various schools so that each high school student can have a copy and to help reduce the financial burden on some parents. The 2015/2016 HYPE Agendas cost a nominal fee of Naf10 or US $6.00 each.
