PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – Two 18 year old men were arrested by police on Saturday March 21st after an attempt was made to rob two supermarkets in the Dutch Quarter area. At the first supermarket the manager succeeded to close the door just in time to avoid being robbed.
The culprits then took off on foot. Within minutes after this report another report came into the Central Dispatch of another ongoing robbery at a second supermarket. After committing their act the suspect also fled on foot. A description of both suspects at both robbery locations was given to the Central Dispatch which in turn passed that information on to the investigating officers.
During the investigation the officers located a group of young men standing at a residence in Zorg en Rust. They also spotted two men of that group which fit the description of the suspects in the two robberies. Both men were arrested on the scene and taken to the Philipsburg Police Station where they remain in custody for further investigation.
