Dutch-language ebook and three-part story series showcase the island’s heritage and nature, with the aim of creating opportunities for local tourism businesses
ORANJESTAD, ST. EUSTATIUS — The St Eustatius Tourism Development Foundation (STDF) has partnered with Travel Diaries on a Dutch-language digital campaign designed to raise the island’s profile in the Netherlands and encourage travellers to explore its heritage, natural attractions and locally delivered visitor experiences.
The collaboration combines a dedicated digital e-book with three destination stories introducing St Eustatius, affectionately known as Statia, through its history, culture, diving and nature trails. Designed to inspire high-value Dutch travellers, the campaign leverages Travel Diaries’ global community of over 250,000 active users. By placing Statia’s cultural heritage, nature trails, and diving eco-systems in front of an engaged audience, the initiative creates a direct promotional line between European travel intent and the local Statian economy, providing opportunities for accommodation providers, guides, dive operators, restaurants and other tourism businesses.
The Dutch-language content gives prospective visitors a more detailed introduction to the island, helping them move beyond destination awareness towards considering what they could experience during a stay. For STDF, the objective is to attract interest in tourism that values Statian identity and supports the people who bring the destination to life.
“For us, this partnership is about more than putting Statia on someone’s travel list,” said Maya Pandt, director of tourism at STDF. “It is about encouraging visitors to experience our island through its people, its history and its natural environment, and creating opportunities for the local businesses that make those experiences possible.”
The collaboration is a direct result of the STDF’s participation in the Trav Day travel trade show in Amersfoort, The Netherlands, in April.
The three-part series explores why travellers should consider the island, the cultural character that distinguishes it and the natural landscapes visitors can discover:
- “10 redenen waarom St Eustatius op je reisradar hoort” — 10 Reasons Why St Eustatius Belongs on Your Travel Radar.
- “Meer dan een tropische ontsnapping: ontdek de ziel van St Eustatius” — More Than a Tropical Escape: Discover the Soul of St Eustatius.
- “Vulkanen, regenwoud en koraalriffen: ontdek de wilde kant van St Eustatius” — Volcanoes, Rainforest and Coral Reefs: Discover the Wild Side of St Eustatius.
Travel Diaries is a digital travel journalling and inspiration platform with more than 250,000 users worldwide, according to its online journal page.
By presenting the island’s cultural and nature-based experiences in Dutch, STDF aims to give prospective visitors a clearer understanding of what makes Statia distinctive, and reasons to explore it thoughtfully.
Travellers can explore the Dutch-language Statia stories at Travel Diaries’ Sint Eustatius destination hub. Destination information is also available through Statia Tourism.
