SINT MAARTEN — A good book can open a world of imagination, inspire a love for reading, and connect readers with stories created close to home. During Literacy Month, that connection came to life through the donation of two locally written books to the Sint Maarten Library by Pure Ocean Health Clinic and Kristina Simmons, in support of local author Jacintha Brice.
Local author Jacintha Brice wrote “Our First Cake” and “The Well,” with illustrations by Daniella Simons, the sister of donor Kristina Simmons, creating a meaningful connection between the donation and Sint Maarten’s creative community.
Simmons shared that the books were donated to encourage the community to support local authors and artists and to inspire people to read more books.
Librarian M. Powell accepted the books on behalf of the Sint Maarten Library and the community. The titles will be added to the Library’s collection, giving readers an opportunity to discover and enjoy locally created literature.
The donation is a meaningful reminder that supporting local authors and artists also helps strengthen a culture of reading and keeps community stories accessible to generations of readers.
