Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF-South) and U.S. Southern Command — Authorities seized 587 kilograms (approximately 1,294 pounds) of cocaine during a coordinated international counter-drug operation in the Caribbean, Joint Interagency Task Force South reported.
A U.S. Coast Guard maritime patrol aircraft first detected the suspicious go-fast vessel. Tracking continued with additional Coast Guard, U.S. Navy, and maritime patrol aircraft support.
Forces from the Dominican Republic and the Netherlands helped maintain pressure on the target as the operation unfolded over more than 21 hours.
Dominican Republic authorities intercepted the vessel in one of the country’s farthest offshore interdictions in recent years, seized 24 bales of cocaine, and detained three individuals. JIATF-South said the drugs were removed from circulation.
The case remains under investigation. Officials described the effort as part of ongoing SOUTHCOM-led operations to disrupt narco-trafficking networks in the region.
