Collision between scooter and car
SABA — On Monday, the 14th of September, at around 7:15 AM, the central control room received a report of a collision between a car and a scooter at the intersection of Pasture Street and Gray Bush Street on Saba. The driver of the scooter was injured and was taken to the hospital by ambulance for medical treatment.
In accordance with the ‘botsen is blazen’ policy, a breathalyzer test was administered to the driver of the car, which showed no indication of alcohol consumption. Due to medical reasons, a breathalyzer test could not be administered to the driver of the scooter.
Traffic controls on Sint Eustatius
Sint Eustatius — On Sunday, the 13th of September, the police conducted a traffic control on the Father Van Tevelenweg on Sint Eustatius. During the control, a total of 11 vehicles were checked. Four drivers received a fine.
The fines were issued for the following violations:
2x for not wearing a seatbelt;
1x for driving without a valid driver’s license;
1x for driving without paid road tax.
On Saturday, the 12th of September, the police also conducted a traffic control on Father Van Tevelenweg on Sint Eustatius. During the control, a total of 6 vehicles were checked. Two drivers received a fine for not wearing a seatbelt.
On Friday, the 11th of September, the police conducted another traffic control on Oranjebaaiweg on Sint Eustatius. During the control, four cars were checked. Two drivers received a fine for not wearing a seatbelt and for driving without a valid driver’s license.
The Caribbean Netherlands Police Force (KPCN) reminds everyone that, pursuant to Article 82, Paragraph 1, Sub F of the Sint Eustatius Road Traffic Ordinance 2022 (Wegenverkeersverordening Sint Eustatius 2022), both the driver and passengers of a motor vehicle are required to wear a seatbelt.
The police will continue to conduct traffic checks to enforce compliance with traffic regulations.
Arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol
Sint Eustatius — On Friday, the 11th of September, at around 4:00 PM, a 33-year-old woman with initials S.S.S.C. was arrested on Charles A. Woodley Road for driving under the influence of alcohol. The suspect was involved in a collision between two cars.
In accordance with the ‘botsen is blazen’ policy, a breathalyzer test was administered to both drivers, which showed that the suspect had consumed more alcohol than legally permitted.
She was taken to the police station for a breath analysis and was issued a 2-hour driving ban.
