SINT EUSTATIUS — Construction of the new Gwendoline van Putten Secondary School building has entered its final phase, marking an important step towards the completion of one of Statia’s largest construction projects.

The project moved into construction in 2022, following the signing of the construction contract in June. Despite challenges that affected the timeline, sustained efforts by the Executive Council, Island Council, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW), the Programme and Project Management Office (PPMO) and the contractor have brought the project to this important stage.

The final touches are now being carried out throughout the site, including the basketball court, stairs, railings and flooring. Construction is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

Once construction is complete, the building will be formally handed over to the School Board. The School Board will then be responsible for the furnishing and final preparations needed to welcome students and staff, marking a significant milestone for education on Statia.
