61-Year-Old Man Dies After Medical Emergency While Hiking Near Mount Christoffel

CURACAO – On Wednesday, August 19, the Maritime Operations Center (MOC) of the Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard received a report from the Curaçao Police Force concerning a 61-year-old local man who became ill while hiking near Mount Christoffel.

Staff from Christoffel Park immediately responded to the location to provide assistance. When the man’s condition deteriorated, CPR was initiated.

At the same time, the MOC alerted a Coast Guard helicopter unit, which immediately departed for Mount Christoffel.

The man was subsequently transported by helicopter to the Coast Guard Base at Hato.

Resuscitation efforts continued throughout the flight.

 

Upon arrival at Hato, ambulance personnel were standing by to provide further medical assistance. Despite the efforts of all emergency responders, the man showed no signs of life.

The Dutch Caribbean Coast Guard, the Curaçao Police Force, Christoffel Park, and all emergency response agencies involved extend their sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and wish the family and friends strength and comfort during this difficult time.
