On January 4 public transportation operator permit holder controls of vehicles to start at parking lot near Little League Ball Park

GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – The Inspectorate of the Ministry Tourism, Economic Affairs, Traffic and Telecommunications (Ministry TEATT), would like to inform all Public Transportation Operators (PTOs) permit holders that the annual control of PTOs is approaching.

This control will commence per January 4th 2016 and is in conformance with articles 2 to 4 of the National Decree on Public Transport AB 2013, GT no. 112.

Controls will be conducted on an appointment basis only. The inspection has to take place first before the 2016 number plate will be issued.

Additional information will be forthcoming about the week days designated for said controls. The controls will once again be conducted in the vicinity of the Little League Ball Park parking lot on Soualiga Road (opposite the Motor Vehicle Inspection Center).

The Controllers will be controlling the PTO permit holders and their motor vehicles for compliance with the National Public Transportation Ordinance/Decree.

PTO’s permit holders should be aware of and ensure that they operate their motor vehicle in public transportation according to the relevant ordinances and decrees: Taxis are motor vehicles equipped to carry not more than fourteen (14) persons, not including the driver.

BUS, which are motor vehicles equipped for the transport of persons, the use of which is subject to a fee. There are two (2) categories of BUS which are “small bus” which transports less than ten (10) passengers and “large bus” which carries more than ten (10) persons (not including the driver).

Buses travel along a designated route. Tour motor vehicles -motor vehicles equipped to carry more than seven (7) persons, not including the driver, for a fee, to be used for conducting rides, of which the sole object of which is not only providing transportation.

Unscheduled transport (G) – the transport of persons for remuneration with motor vehicles, which are equipped to carry more than fifteen (15) persons, but which are not covered by bus, taxi, rental cars or tours.

Lastly the control will focus on PTOs permit holders compliance with the national decree on public transportation with regards to the technical aspects and safety of their motor vehicles.
