Making Official Statistics More Accessible to the People of St. Maarten
Philipsburg – The Department of Statistics (STAT) is pleased to announce the launch of its new website and interactive statistical dashboard, providing the people of St. Maarten with improved access to official statistics and a new way to explore and use statistical information.
October is an important month for the statistical community across the Caribbean, as countries and statistical offices use this period to highlight the importance of quality statistics and the role that data play in supporting informed decision-making and development. The regional theme for 2026, “Harmonising Data, Strengthening Resilience,” highlights the importance of producing quality, comparable and reliable statistics that can support countries in understanding their economies and societies and responding to emerging challenges.
For STAT, the launch of the new website and dashboard is an important part of this effort. It reflects the Department’s continued commitment to making official statistics more accessible, transparent, understandable and useful to the people of St. Maarten.
A New Digital Home for St. Maarten’s Statistics
The new STAT website provides a central location where users can access official statistics and information about the work of the Department.
The website brings together statistical information covering areas such as Prices and Inflation, Labour Market, Population and Demographics, Tourism, National Accounts and Economic Statistics and Social Statistics. The website will continue to grow as additional statistical information, publications and datasets become available.
Helping Everyone Understand the Numbers
STAT recognizes that making statistics available is only one part of making data useful. Statistics can be difficult to interpret if users do not understand what is measured, how it is calculated, where the information comes from and what the figures actually mean.
In the coming period, STAT will introduce initiatives that explain statistical indicators in plain, everyday language, helping members of the community understand what the numbers mean and how they relate to their daily lives.
Explore the Data Yourself with the New Dashboard
A major feature of the new platform is STAT’s interactive statistical dashboard. The dashboard allows users to explore available data and create their own queries based on the information they need. Users can select indicators, time periods and other variables, filter information, compare available periods or categories, explore trends and generate customized queries.
The dashboard is intended for policymakers, government departments, businesses, researchers, students, journalists, educators and members of the public.
