ORANJESTAD – Over the past three days, Sint Eustatius Community Officer Rexcarlos Courtar has been introducing himself to various partners across the island. Through these introductory visits, Courtar is taking the first steps toward building and strengthening cooperation with organizations and the community of Statia.
Courtar visited, among others, the Fire Department, the airport, schools, local businesses and other community partners. The visits provided an opportunity not only to get acquainted, but also to hear what is happening within the community and explore how the Community Officer can play a connecting role.
Meeting with Acting Island Governor
Courtar also had a constructive meeting with Acting Island Governor Sharon Hassell. During the meeting, he shared his plans and ambitions for his role as Community Officer and discussed what he hopes to achieve in the coming period.
Ms. Hassell, in turn, shared her perspectives and areas she considers important for the community.
Together, they discussed opportunities for the Community Officer to contribute, including through increased visibility, accessible contact with residents and close cooperation between the police, local organizations and the community.
Visible and approachable in the community
In the coming period, Courtar will become increasingly visible in neighborhoods, at community activities and throughout Sint Eustatius.
By being present in the community, he aims to get to know residents, listen to their concerns and experiences, and work together with partners to contribute to the safety and quality of life on the island. Residents are encouraged to approach Courtar when they see him in the community.
He can be contacted regarding non-emergency concerns, questions about safety in your neighborhood, or information that may contribute to keeping the community safe.
Meet your Community Officer this Friday
The Caribbean Netherlands Police Force (KPCN) also invites the community to meet Courtar during a Meet & Greet on Friday, 2 October, from 17:30 to 19:30, in front of the Police Station.
The evening is especially about hearing from the community. Residents are invited to share their concerns, experiences, ideas and what they feel is needed in their neighborhoods and the wider community.
There will be music, finger food and drinks, providing an informal setting to meet the Community Officer, have a conversation and share what matters to you. Everyone is welcome.
