SINT MAARTEN — On Thursday, September 3, 2026, at approximately 5:00 a.m., a traffic accident occurred on Bishop Hill Road near streetlight #BP10, involving a pedestrian and a scooter rider.

The pedestrian was walking in the direction of Belvedere. Due to the poor condition of the shoulder, he moved onto the far right side of the roadway. At that moment, a purple Yamaha T-Max DX scooter, without a license plate, was traveling in the same direction and collided with the pedestrian.

As a result of the collision, both individuals fell to the roadway and sustained injuries. Ambulance personnel provided first aid, after which both were transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) for further medical treatment.

The pedestrian was treated and later discharged from the hospital. The scooter rider sustained a deep laceration to the head and was later transferred to the French side for further medical treatment.

It was noted that the scooter rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The Public Prosecutor was informed of the incident. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
