Community Appeal
On September 25, 2026, a call went out to community-minded residents of Dutch St. Maarten. Nanny Nussey recently shared a video highlighting the difficult situation of two senior citizens who are Commonwealth of Dominica nationals living in the Middle Region.
Both individuals are unwell. One is a double amputee. Their current home is described as unlivable, with building materials and heavy items scattered throughout the property. Plumbing and masonry work are needed to make the dwelling safer and more habitable. They also lack proper furniture.
Organizers are assembling a group to clean and organize the house so it becomes livable again.
Items currently needed include:
- A dumper or similar heavy equipment (anyone able to donate use of one is asked to come forward)
- Cleaning supplies
- Mops
- Brooms
- Large cardboard boxes
- Gloves
- Buckets
- Dust cloths
- Garbage bags
- Yellow storage bins (available at Cost-U-Less)
- Mattress
- Used television
- Any other useful donated items
Sandra Hazel and fellow organizers are asking Dominican nationals and the wider St. Maarten community to step up with donations or by joining the cleaning effort.
