Willemstad, Curacao — The Social and Economic Council (SER) of Curaçao on Tuesday submitted its advisory report on proposed changes to the island’s social assistance ordinance to Mrs. Charetti America-Francisca, minister of Social Development, Labor and Welfare (SOAW).

The report addresses two closely related proposals: a draft National Ordinance amending the Ordinance on the Provision of Social Assistance Curaçao 2008, and a draft National Decree containing general measures to implement Article 14, paragraph 3, of that ordinance.

The SER received the two requests for advice on June 23. The Council subsequently reviewed the proposals from legal, socioeconomic, financial and implementation perspectives. As part of the advisory process, Mrs. America-Francisca provided a briefing at an extraordinary preparatory meeting of the SER on August 7 and answered questions from Council members.

The SER adopted the report on August 14, during an extraordinary plenary meeting. Its submission on August 18th concluded the SER’s formal advisory process. Responsibility for the proposals’ further consideration and the decisions that follow now rests with the Government.
