Philipsburg, Sint Maarten – The Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM), together with the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee (KMar) and the Immigration Department, conducted a control operation at a gentleman’s club in the Oyster Pond area on Saturday night, August 8, 2026.
The operation was initiated following information received concerning possible acts of human trafficking and other related offenses taking place at the establishment. The control was conducted under the leadership of the Judge of Instruction and involved several detectives and other officers from KPSM. KPSM was further assisted by personnel from the KMar and the Immigration Department.
After speaking with the women some of them declared themselves victims of human trafficking based on some irregularities that have been taking place. These women were then place in a victim protection program.
The women that didn’t meet the criteria of being a victim and who were illegal on the island were turned over to the Immigration Department.
During the operation, a female who was operating the establishment was arrested and transported to the police station for questioning. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the operation remains ongoing.
Human trafficking and human smuggling remain serious concerns throughout the Caribbean region. KPSM, together with its local and international justice partners, continues to conduct investigations and enforcement operations aimed at identifying and addressing these forms of exploitation. KPSM emphasizes that combating human trafficking requires cooperation between law enforcement authorities, government agencies, community organizations and the public.
