PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten (KPSM) — The Police Force of Sint Maarten (KPSM) has begun the process of clearing the back yard of the police station in Philipsburg of scooters and motorcycles that have remained impounded for extended periods.
Over the past months, KPSM has issued several public notices asking owners and caretakers to come forward and retrieve their scooters and motorcycles that were impounded because of documentation or technical issues.
After these repeated requests, and in consultation and agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Justice, KPSM has proceeded with the disposal of vehicles that remained unclaimed and met the requirements for disposal.
The first group of scooters was removed from the police station yard on Tuesday, August 12, 2026. The remaining scooters that have been approved for disposal will be removed over the coming days.
This action is also being taken with general public safety in mind. As Sint Maarten enters the peak period of the 2026 hurricane season, having a large number of abandoned or impounded vehicles stored in the police yard creates additional safety and logistical concerns.
KPSM once again reminds anyone who has a scooter or motorcycle currently impounded at the police station to contact the police as soon as possible and determine whether the vehicle can still be retrieved. Owners must provide the necessary documentation and meet the applicable requirements.
