URSM calls for institutional calm and respect following reports of internal executive matter

PHILIPSBURG — The Board of the Unified Resilient Sint Maarten Movement (URSM) has taken note of public reports concerning an incident involving access to government facilities by a senior civil servant within the executive branch.

URSM emphasizes that this matter falls squarely within the internal operations of the executive branch of government. As such, the Board is mindful of the importance of respecting confidentiality, due process, and established administrative protocols.

“Not every issue that enters the public domain is one that should be litigated in public,” the URSM Board stated. “Internal executive matters must be addressed within the appropriate institutional frameworks, without speculation or unnecessary escalation.”

The Board stresses that safeguarding the integrity of government institutions requires discretion, professionalism, and adherence to clear lines of authority. Public confidence is best maintained when internal matters are handled responsibly and without compromising sensitive information.

“Good governance depends not only on transparency, but also on discipline and respect for internal processes,” URSM noted. “Premature or incomplete public narratives can undermine trust and distort the realities of complex administrative situations.”

URSM further cautions against drawing conclusions in the absence of official clarification, recognizing that executive leadership must sometimes take decisions that are administrative in nature and not intended for public debate.

“The executive branch must be afforded the space to resolve internal matters calmly and lawfully,” the Board added. “This includes protecting the dignity of public servants and ensuring continuity of government operations.”

While acknowledging Parliament’s awareness of the situation, URSM reiterates that accountability mechanisms already exist within the constitutional framework to address concerns should they arise.

“Our institutions are strongest when each branch of government respects its role and boundaries,” the Board concluded.

“URSM encourages restraint, professionalism, and confidence in the constitutional order as this internal matter is addressed.”
