Leadership Remarks and Opening Messages

The program formally opened with remarks from Prime Minister Luc Mercelina, who underscored the importance of creating global opportunities for Sint Maarten’s youth:

“The strength of our nation lies in the potential of our young people. Tonight, we celebrate not only their talent, but the collective responsibility we share to create opportunities that allow them to thrive. Bridge to Bold Sint Maarten Foundation is building pathways that ensure Sint Maarten’s future leaders can take their place on the world stage, and my government is committed to supporting that vision.” –  Prime Minister Luc Mercelina

The Prime Minister then introduced a heartfelt pre-recorded message from legendary entertainer Ms. Dionne Warwick, whose words of encouragement resonated deeply with attendees.

Following this powerful moment, Director of Charlotte Brookson Academy for the Performing Arts (CBA) Silveria Jacobs gave an overview of the collaboration between CBA, Bowie State University, which was also represented at the event, and the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. She emphasized the importance of nurturing our youth and offering them opportunities to grow and develop in their craft and as impactful human beings.

Also in attendance as part of the Bridge to Bold Foundation’s ongoing educational and leadership partnerships were:

  • Dr. Lynn Long, Head of the Bowie State University Education Department
  • Dr. Tasheka Green, Independent Education Consultant
  • Sharina Casseus, Bridge to Bold Sint Maarten Foundation Board Member

Their presence further underscored the Foundation’s commitment to strengthening academic pathways, mentorship networks, and global opportunities for Sint Maarten’s students.

“Tonight reminds us that when we invest in our young people, we are investing in the very future of Sint Maarten. Their talent, their courage, and their determination are proof that our island’s potential is limitless. Bridge to Bold Sint Maarten Foundation is opening doors that once seemed out of reach, and together, we are ensuring that every rising star has the opportunity to shine far beyond our shores.” – CBA Director Silveria Jacobs

Spotlight on Scholarship and Youth Achievement

This year’s fundraising priorities centered on supporting:

  • Keon Blair, continuing his university studies at Bowie State University
  • Two promising students preparing to attend the 2026 Summer Arts Program
  • Strengthening community-driven support by encouraging government partners, private-sector leaders, and the wider public to champion these initiatives, expanding opportunities for youth advancement and ensuring that Sint Maarten’s emerging talent can thrive on a global scale.

A moving video update from Keon highlighted his academic journey, followed by a feature on the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, showcasing the value of global partnerships. Remarks from Ms. Sandi Logan, Head of School and Principal, further reinforced the institution’s ongoing commitment to cultural and educational exchange.

Keon’s Academic Excellence

In addition to showcasing his personal growth, Keon highlighted his outstanding academic achievements, including earning a 3.3 GPA and making the Dean’s List this year at Bowie State University. His success serves as a powerful reminder of what becomes possible when young people are given the chance to pursue higher education without financial barriers. Bridge to Bold emphasized its commitment not only to supporting Keon’s continued journey, but also to ensuring that more students from Sint Maarten gain access to similar life-changing opportunities. The Foundation aims to expand its scholarship offerings so that other Sint Maarten students can follow in Keon’s footsteps and excel academically on the global stage.

The CBA Dance Ensemble, spoken word artists Kimore and Shamarr, vocalist Joel Morris, Allison, Sylvion, the CBA Choir, and guest artists Natisha Hanson and Tamillia each delivered memorable pieces.
