PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — Education is the bridge to opportunity, and no child, no parent, should ever feel alone on that journey.

As the new school year begins, I extend heartfelt encouragement to every student of Sint Maarten  from the youngest in primary school to those pursuing higher education at the University of St. Martin, NIPA, and abroad. Each step you take in your education is a step toward building not only your future but also the future of our beloved nation.

To Our Students

This school year brings with it new challenges and opportunities.
Remember:

  • You are capable.
  • You are worthy.
  • You are never alone.

If you feel overwhelmed, reach out  to a teacher, a counselor, a parent, or a friend. Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Your education is a journey, and every question you ask is a step forward.

To Our Parents, Especially Those Raising Children with Special Needs

I recognize the silent struggles many parents face, particularly those raising children with special needs. Research and lived experiences remind us of the growing challenges in childhood mental health, but they also remind us of the power of love, connection, and presence.

To the parents who feel tired, worried, or unsure please know:

  • You are not failing. You are fighting.
  • You are seen.
  • You are not alone.

Your child doesn’t need perfection; they need your presence. A hug, a smile, or a moment of time spent together can change a child’s entire day. Together, we can create a community where both students and parents feel supported and empowered.

Let’s Make This School Year Count

Education is more than academics; it is about shaping resilient, compassionate, and capable individuals. Let us stand together with teachers, parents, students, and leaders  to ensure that this school year is one where every child is given the chance to rise, to grow, and to shine.

As your Member of Parliament, I will continue to advocate for a stronger, more inclusive educational system that provides the tools, resources, and support every child and every parent needs.

Together, let us nurture a generation that is not only educated but emotionally strong and prepared for the future
