SINT MAARTEN / HOLLAND — Projects in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom can now apply for the “Appeltjes van Oranje” award. For 2019, the award will be themed: “Collaboration is Power—With volunteers you can achieve more.” The Oranje Fonds is looking for social organizations that have been able to mobilize volunteers and keep them mobilized in remarkable ways, in order to create enduring connections among people. Applications can be handed in until October 14 at www.oranjefonds.nl/appeltjes.

In May 2019, Queen Máxima will hand out the awards at Palace Noordeinde in The Hague.

We are looking for organizations that—through their particular approach, innovative strength and drive—have been able to yield truly remarkable results and by working together with their volunteers, are connecting people in enduring ways. Who is best at achieving this and at keeping volunteers mobilized over the long term?

“Collaboration is Power”

“We believe in a society that holds a place for everyone. Where everybody is able to participate and nobody is left out. To achieve that, you need people willing to roll up their sleeves and continue doing so with passion, day after day. Volunteers are crucial. That’s why the Oranje Fonds supports projects that bring together people who are willing to look out for others,” says Oranje Fonds director, Peter Douwes.

Criteria

To win an Appeltje van Oranje 2019, projects will need to meet a number of criteria. There should be a clear and successful vision and approach with regard to the use of volunteers. At the same time, the initiative should also be transferable and serve as a model for others. All criteria for participation can be found on www.oranjefonds.nl/appeltjes.

Awards

Each year, the Appeltjes van Oranje award is handed out to three social initiatives that have succeeded in bringing together different groups of people, or that otherwise allow people to once again become participants in the community. For each year, a different theme is selected. All Appeltje van Oranje winners receive a small bronze statue made by Princess Beatrix, as well as EUR 15.000. The awards are handed out yearly by Queen Máxima, and every five years by King Willem-Alexander.

The Oranje Fonds

The Oranje Fonds strives to ensure that everyone may be able to participate in their community. That is why we provide funds, time and energy as well as advice in support of social projects that connect people in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. As a couple, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima act as the patrons of the Oranje Fonds.
