GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – Prime Minister Leona Romeo Marlin, Chairlady of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), convened an EOC meeting on Friday morning at 9.00 am to review the national response that took place related to the passing of Tropical Storm Isaac.
The Tropical Storm Watch for Sint Maarten was discontinued on Thursday afternoon by the Meteorological Department of St. Maarten (MDS).
At the end of the meeting at 9.45 am on Friday morning, the EOC was officially deactivated.
Prime Minister Romeo Marlin in her national address to the nation said: “The preparations taken by this Government and its Disaster Management System were of a pro-active nature rather than being reactive.
“I would like to thank the public for their diligence in monitoring the storm and the 10 Emergency Support Functions and other entities who performed optimally in preparing for Isaac, the ninth storm of the season. I am grateful for the teamwork that was displayed in the days leading up to the passing of Isaac.
“As a precautionary measure, assistance of the Dutch Military was requested. The Marines worked with our law enforcement manning various checkpoints throughout the country based on an operational plan that was prepared by the Sint Maarten Police Force. There was great cooperation between both entities.
“There was also a very good coordination between the Prefecture and Collectivite of St. Martin where it concerned information sharing. I look forward to future positive cooperation with our counterparts in the North.

“This was our second exercise for the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season. The first one was with Tropical Storm Beryl back in early July.
“As Prime Minister, I would like to remind the general public to continue to be vigilant as this was an exercise in hurricane preparedness, and every individual, homeowner, and business, have a responsibility to make sure that they are prepared and ready to take action when called to do so.
“I would like to say thank you once again to the nation and to our Disaster Management Organization.
“Government along with the aforementioned will continue to prepare and build our resources to handle other potential hazards and natural disasters.
