Minister De Weever provides destination update to International Travel Trade Media

GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) – Acting Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications (Ministry TEATT) Cornelius de Weever, last Wednesday, May 30, provided an update about destination rebuilding developments via a live interview to 31 regional and international travel trade media organizations which was organized by the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO).

Most media organizations, 27 were from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.  There were several media organizations from Puerto Rico, and Trinidad & Tobago.

Some of the media organizations that took part were: Travel Market Insiders, NBC BLK, Huffington Post, Travel Market Report, Travel Weekly, Cruise Critic, National Geographic Traveler, Travel Features Syndicate, Fodor’s Travel, Easy Planet Travel, Ensemble Vacations, and Just about Travel.

“As a destination we have to keep the travel trade media informed and updated with how things are progressing in our rebuilding efforts since the storms of September 2017.  There is much progress and many positive developments related to our tourism dependent economy.

“I had the opportunity to provide information and answer questions posed by the international travel trade media. I commend CTO for organizing this very important opportunity,” Minister Cornelius de Weever said on Sunday.

Other Caribbean islands that gave destination updates were: Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, St. Martin, and Dominica.

The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), with headquarters in Barbados and offices in New York and London, is the Caribbean’s tourism development agency comprising membership of 26 countries and territories including Dutch, English, French and Spanish, as well as a myriad of private sector allied members.

The primary objective of the CTO is to provide to and through its members the services and information necessary for the development of sustainable tourism for the economic and social benefit of the Caribbean people.

The CTO’s vision is to position the Caribbean as the most desirable, year-round, warm weather destination and a Leading Sustainable Tourism region – One Sea, One Voice, One Caribbean.

The CTO was established in 1989.
