Police working to identify decomposed body of male found in mountain ghaut

Basseterre, St. Kitts, April 02, 2018 – Police on Monday confirmed that a body was found on Sunday in the mountainous area of Wingfield Road, Old Road, six miles west of the capital.

In response to the report, police said the scene was visited its investigative officers along with their counterparts from the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services (SKNFRS) and the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force (SKNDF).

“Upon arrival, the partially decomposed body of a male individual was seen among the trees on the side of a steep ghaut. Members of the SKNFRS removed the body and the scene was processed by the Crime Scene Unit,” the police statement said.

It added than an autopsy is expected to be performed shortly and the Police are currently working to confirm the identity of the individual.

Residents however believe the decomposed body is that of missing Newton Ground resident, Priston Joel Fleming, who was last seen in the Old Road/Verchild’s area on February 27 wearing a white polo T-shirt and short dark khaki pants.

Sources in Old Road said the decomposing body was found by a senior police officer who was on a hike with his wife.

On Saturday, the body of 27-year-old Marlon James of Brown Hill was discovered in bushes at Hamilton, Nevis with signs of violence and multiple gunshots wounds about the body.
