PHILIPSBURG – Members of the U 2 Can Move Fitness group braved the rain and came out in support of the Belvedere Zumbathon last Saturday.

U 2 Can Move membership continues its physical awareness drive to encourage movement, especially for the groups that otherwise would lead a sedentary lifestyle.

“Our message is quite simple. Movement is an indispensable part of a healthy lifestyle. It is a necessary part of life, period. Too often we associate physical movement with strenuous exercise or an imposing gym. These can be part of any movement regiment, depending on one’s preferences and abilities. But there is so much more to it and so many more ways one can move and be active,” a release said.

“The World Health Organization (WHO) on physical activity: Regular physical activity such as walking, cycling, or dancing not only makes you feel good, it has significant benefits for health. It reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and some cancers, helps control weight, and contributes to mental well-being. Taking part in physical activity also increases opportunities for making friends and feeling part of the community. On the contrary, physical inactivity and sedentary behavior are two of the leading risk factors for health and is estimated to attribute to one million deaths per year in the WHO European Region,” the release continued.

U 2 Can Move, initially best known for its Zumba sessions and walkathons, engages in activities such as, walking, hikes and different forms physical training. “We encourage all and any organization that promote a form of active living. We also support the ‘Share the Road’ advocacy,” the release stated.

There is, however, another beneficial part of these activities, namely enjoying the outdoors and fostering a sense of community. This will be once again demonstrated with a Move and Glow Moonlight Zumba Extravaganza at the Lookout Point (aka Harold Jack’s Place) on September 6. The event will officially kick off at the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex at 6:30pm. Participants are welcome to join in at Raoul Illidge and take part in the warm-up walk to the Lookout Point or join at 7:00pm for Zumba on location.

The entire community is invited to join and make this a fun and movin’ evening. More information can be had on their Facebook and Instagram pages or by contacting U 2 Can Move via e-mail: www.u2cmsxm@gmail.com.
