PHILIPSBURG – The St. Maarten Lions Club had another successful fundraiser with its annual Christmas Bingo the Lion Wally Havertong Christmas Bingo Spectacular, which was held Saturday, December 3, at the Festival Village. This was the 43rd year of the popular bingo, which is the largest on St. Maarten and one of the largest around the Caribbean.

Over 2,100 persons attended the bingo whereby the general public played 52 games for overloaded Christmas baskets with ham and turkeys, airline tickets, hotel stays, restaurant vouchers and many other prizes. There was also a door prize of a Christmas Basket and other consolation prizes that were raffled as well.

According to St. Maarten Lions Club President Davey Woods, “our club is very happy with enormous support from the public that came out to play last Saturday along with the great support of the business community that donated baskets and many prizes for the event. Apart from all business that supported us, we really have to mention our two major sponsors Windward Roads and St. Maarten Harbor Group of Companies for their generosity over the last few years and yet again for this bingo. This was by far our biggest and best bingo ever and we will look for ways to make it even better.”

The big cash prize winner at the 2016 Lions Christmas Bingo was Irene Visser, who won the US $1,000 Santa’s Bag. All proceeds raised from the Lion Wally Havertong Christmas Bingo Spectacular will be used by the St. Maarten Lions Club for various worthwhile community projects on St. Maarten, such as the recently completed Lion Nelson vd Linde Seniors Party, Christmas Feeding Program, Lion Rudy Health & Wellness Fair, Alcohol Awareness, Sight Awareness, to name a few. The club tries its best to assist many individuals, social and sports organizations and foundations throughout the year.

Upcoming events for the St. Maarten Lions Club are the celebration of the club’s 46th anniversary on December 12, and the Lion Rudy Hoeve Health and Wellness Fair.
