Annual Pink Parade set for Friday, September 30

PHILIPSBURG – Positive Foundation and Elektra have again teamed up for the 7th annual Pink Parade set for Friday, September 30, to honor those who have won the battle with breast cancer and those who have been lost to the illness.

12347923_10153095909255916_6225099160469990873_nThe primary purpose of the parade is to enhance awareness of the importance of early breast cancer detection in women and men. The parade also presents an opportunity for participants to honor or remember those who have battled breast cancer or cancer in general and to reinforce the act to action to Find it, Feel it, Fight It!

Positive Foundation and Elektra encourage participants to come up with creative ways to recognize those who have battled with cancer during the parade. For example, participants can wear pink ribbons with the names of survivors, those still battling breast cancer or those lost to illness.

Companies, organizations and individuals must register for the Pink Parade. All participants must wear pink for the parade. Organizations and groups are allowed to carry a banner or logo to identify themselves in the parade and to show affinity to the cause.

Parade organizers also call on business community to allow their staff to wear pink on Friday, September 30, to further highlight the fight against breast cancer.

Businesses are required to pay a participation fee for the parade. Non-profit organizations and individuals can participate free of charge.

The Pink Parade will commence at 4:30pm (line up time is 3:30pm) from University of St. Martin (USM) and will end back at USM. The route is from USM, turn right onto Walter Nisbeth Road, left to Long Wall Road, Front Street, turn left onto Juancho Yrasquin Boulevard, left on Walter Nisbeth Road to USM. The parade will be accompanied by brass and drum and steel bands.
