MP Lake supports approach of VROMI Minister on the garbage situation

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — As a representative of the people and as a member supporting this coalition, I understand the transition phase for the new Waste Disposal Haulers where it concerns the collection of garbage, and action needs to be taken.

I call on Government to take action. I support the Minister responsible for VROMI approach, to bring in extra local helpers to pick up the garbage in all areas, especially in St. Peters, in order to ease the transition phase in the general interest of the people.  Our communities should not suffer within this transition phase. https://ssl.gstatic.com/ui/v1/icons/mail/images/cleardot.gif

This will create temporary employment and at the same time, relieve our communities from this unsightly garbage throughout the various districts. It also will prevent rodent problems from developing.

I am not going to get into petty politics, the blame game, the negativity and spite work of some persons within our community, but I will advise the Government and the Minister of VROMI to pick up garbage before the end of this week starting today.‎ We need to get back to basics and just get the districts cleaned, and the haulers have to live up to their contracts. No more excuses!

If the residents have any complaints, they should call the haulers, but most of all the Ministry of VROMI at 542-4289, if they are not doing their job.

I would like to advise all the Waste Disposal Haulers to provide the best service to the community, and to live up to Government standards and criteria ‎for picking up garbage in the different areas.

I also would advise the Waste Disposal Haulers to put back the residents’ garbage bins at the same place where they took them from.

In closing, I would like to apologize to the general public for the not so smooth transition‎ of the Waste Disposal Haulers, but I can assure you that the garbage will be picked up by the end of this week starting today. Government has to evaluate the progress of the local haulers. I would like to wish all of them success.
